Keratin Hair Treatment For Summer

Let’s face it, summer can be really tough on our hair. If you have frizzy, curly, unmanageable hair especially in the humid summer this treatment is for you. I've been getting the Keratin treatment formaldehyde free for the past two years and definitely works miracles on my hair in the summer! Let’s talk about the different types of smoothing treatments you can do. There are several treatments that are most commonly offered in salons. I have had two of the treatments done: Keratin and Brazilian Blowout. I've never had any of the express treatments done.

Keratin: It can cost over $300 depending on the length of your hair. Application takes 2-3 hours. After the treatment is done you must keep your hair down for 72 hours. No washing, putting it behind your ears and no pony tails. Results can last up to 4 months or longer.

Brazilian Blowout: Can cost over $250. Application takes 2-3 hours. This treatment helps improve the condition of the hair by creating a protective protein layer around each strand of hair to help fight frizz, resulting in smooth, sleek and frizz-free hair. You can immediately put your hair up, wash your hair, etc. There is no waiting period. Results last up to 6 months.

Both the Keratin & Brazilian Blowout:
  • Completely eliminates frizz for smoother hair
  • Humidity does not effect your styling
  • Cuts down on styling time
  • Dries much faster

With the Keratin: Your hair will be straighter and not hold curl as well.

Bottom line: I would highly recommend any of these for anyone that feels like they need some tame in their hair.

Which treatment do you prefer?

The protein is keratin. There's about 91 percent protein in your hair. It can lose protein and become fragile when you style it, dye it, bleach it, or perm it, etc. It can be susceptible to snapping off. So, by adding some lost protein to make your hair stronger and easier to style, keratin helps. For those with fine hair, it's also nice to strengthen it.

There's such a thing as so much protein that you need a protein and moisture balance that can make the hair brittle and break off. Normal, healthy hair would probably only need a protein treatment every month whereas for someone like me with very processed hair I normally go about once every two weeks or every week.
